Reef Check Republica Dominicana was founded in 2004 by Dr Rubén Torres. With the support of other nature lovers, he has developped conservation programs for marine areas in his country while taking into account the interests of fishing communities and the importance of tourism.

Combining sustainable development and the conservation of coral reefs: this is the course displayed by the association's programs.

La Caleta National Underwater Park, located near Santo Domingo Airport is emblematic of Reef Check's action : by developing eco-tourism based on diving, local fishermen have become protectors of the coral reef.

The association also welcomes volunteers, to meet its needs and multiply its actions, and has launched a coral adoption program.
